F2 Starting Arrangements - September 2023

29th June 2023

Dear Parents

As you are aware, we arrange a phased transition into our school for FS2 children. This has been incredibly successful in the past, ensuring all children experience a calm and happy environment without upset.

It is a big step for many children, even those who are used to full days at nursery. Many young children can become overwhelmed and tired quickly and when they start school, they are faced with new routines, new adults, new peers, new rules, new environment, new uniform, smaller staff rations, and eating lunch in a large dinner hall. As wonderful as our older pupils are, especially with our new comers, it can be a little overwhelming having lots of older children in the same environment, especially in the lunch hall.

This is why we believe a phased transition to school is in the best interest of our children. It gives them time to process all new information and gradually build up an understanding of school and what days are like here.

During the afternoons of the first week, Miss Morton rings all parents to discuss any questions, queries and concerns about starting school, as well as finding out more information about your children. These meetings are so valuable in terms of getting to know the children as quickly as possible, as well as for planning and assessment. Without these half days, she would not have time to contact all parents.

Research shows how beneficial a slower start to school is and it has worked amazingly for our school for a long time. We believe it is the reason why we have such a happy, settled school. However, we appreciate that a small number of you are finding that this transition is causing great difficulty in terms of childcare. We do not want to cause any additional stress or worries for our families and in special circumstances, we can accommodate longer days during the week commencing 11th September.

Please contact our school office if you would like to speak with Mr Ramsden and Miss Morton regarding the first two weeks of Reception.

The starting arrangements remain unchanged and are as follows:

Thursday 7th September & Friday 8th September - 9:00-11:30am.

WC Monday 11th September - 9:00-1:30pm

WC Monday 18th September - 8:50-3:15pm (full time).

Thank you and warm regards

Mr Ramsden and Miss Morton

20th June 2023

Dear Parents

A big thank you to all those parents who attended our parent welcome meeting yesterday in school. Our aim is to make your child's transition into our school family as smooth and enjoyable as possible. The pack you took home contains lots of useful information but please feel free to drop me an email should you have any queries in the meantime.

Teddy Bears Picnic

We would like to invite your little one, along with two adults to a Teddy Bear’s Picnic on Thursday 29th June at 4:00 p.m. in school. This fun event is for all new F2 families and is another great way to introduce your child to our school. There will be refreshments available but please feel free to bring your own healthy snacks. Don’t forget to bring along a picnic blanket and of course teddy too!

Transition Day (please note date change!)

We have been informed today that all transition days across all schools has now been rescheduled due to industrial action. Your childs transition day is now on Thursday 6th July (same time as previously stated on your welcome letter). We ask that all parents leave the school site for this introductory session but please be assured that we will make every effort to ensure they are safe and settled during this morning session.
